Both, and the balance depends on wind. Charter phinisi carry sails and use them when conditions allow, but they also carry engines and rely on them for schedule-keeping, tight anchorage approaches and windless days. If sailing under canvas matters to you, say so at enquiry stage, because vessels differ in how much working sail they actually carry and how often the crew deploys it.
What is the minimum charter length?
Most owners set a two-night minimum, and in the Bali cruising area single-night charters are sometimes possible. In Komodo and Raja Ampat, short charters are technically available but rarely worth it, because transfer time to the first meaningful anchorage consumes a disproportionate share of the voyage.
